The Management Club (TMC) Colombo conducted its 15th Annual General Meeting at Hotel Galadari, Colombo with the participation of members and founder members of TMC.
The Management Club (TMC) formed in 2001 under the auspices of the Chartered Management Institute – UK Sri Lanka.
The Meeting commenced with the outgoing Chairman Manjula Wijemanne, addressing the membership. He then Invited Fayaz Saleem – President Emeritus, to take the head table,and tointroduce the New Chairman of TMC Colombo, Dr. Pradeep Edward, who counts over 25 years of corporate experience in both local and multinational companies, in numerous fields, with over 5 years at CEO capacity. He is a life member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), and further holds 3 fellowships from the Chartered Institute of Marketing – UK, Institute of Management Specialist – UK, and an Honorary Fellowship from the Institute of Marketing Malaysia (IMM). He is also a Certified Professional Finance Manager and Chartered Marketer from UK. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing/Business Management and Finance. Additionally, he holds a MBA and Ph.D.
HUAWEI CONNECT 2020 opened was held recently in Shanghai. HUAWEI CONNECT is an annual flagship event hosted by Huawei for the global ICT industry. It is a platform where Huawei discloses its major strategies.
In 2016, Huawei envisioned an intelligent world and called upon its partners worldwide to build a diverse and thriving Costa Rica-like ecosystem together. In 2017, Huawei announced its goal of becoming one of the world's five major cloud service providers. In 2018, Huawei revealed its AI strategy, and then in 2019 its computing strategy.
In 2020, as 5G has been rolled out at scale worldwide, connectivity, cloud, AI, computing, and industry applications have all come together to create unprecedented opportunities for the ICT sector. Therefore, the focus of this year's HUAWEI CONNECT is: Creating new value with synergy across five tech domains.
After five long months post-lockdown, the dynamic Colombo Toastmasters Club met to commemorate a brand new Toastmasters year.
The 37th Presidential Installation Ceremony of the club was held on the 2nd of August at Hotel Galadari, Colombo adhering to the health guidelines issued for the prevention of Covid-19 by the Government.
The oldest club in South Asia, chartered in 1983, The Colombo Toastmasters Club installed its new executive committee for the year 2020/2021 at this ceremony.
Toastmaster Viruli de Silva was installed as the 37th President of the club.
The rest of the committee comprises of TM Layan Wijegunaratne as the Vice President Education, TM Shyamalie Jayasekera as the Vice President Membership, TM Ashinsanie Weerasinghe as the Vice President Public Relations, TM Shashikala Wanigasinghe as the Secretary, TM Thushan Mahagedara as the Treasurer, TM Rasika Amarasinghe as Sergeant-at-Arms and TM Vinodini Durgabakshi as the Immediate Past President.
The committee was installed by the Installation Officer, Immediate Past District Director of District 82 – DTM Sarmaa Mahalingam, who is also a long-standing member and a past president of the club.
